You may tilt the Dreamcast while you're doing it. Gently allow it to open every now and then until the game boots. Now, keep the lid down and let the spindle spin. Now, open the top, insert the disc and close the lid while holding down the Open button.
#UTOPIA DISC DREAMCAST ISO#
If it won't work, I'll host an ISO for you - Utopia's Homebrew.ĮDIT: There's also one other method I developed over the years - when your Dreamcast is on, get to the Game screen which asks you to insert a disc. If your Utopia discs aren't working then they're bad burns or the laser has issues. Another thing you'd want to check is if the Dreamcast will read the disc when slightly tilted to either side, when it's standing on its side or when it's upside-down - oddly enough it sometimes helps with initial booting of old lasers and it's the first tell-tale sign that it needs calibrating. If in doubt, follow one of the many Dreamcast lens cleaning tutorials. Do not use perfume or any spirits that may leave stains on the lens or you'll make it worse. If you have q-tips (cotton swabs) and some high volume alcohol, you may attempt to gently clean the lens. If all else fails, look for a different image, preferably CDI.Ĭlick to expand. If Soul Calibur worked and now it refuses to boot then it's a matter of the Dreamcast, not the disc itself - I find it hard to believe that it'd deteriorate that fast. There are two versions of Utopia still in circulation - use both as they have different compatibility (from my experience). When in doubt, use a Utopia Boot CD to launch games that seem unlaunchable (Region issues) or an Action Replay CDX (Not recommended). ALWAYS aim for CDI images rather than ISO or BIN/CUE - the latter have issues when it comes to multi-ToC discs. NEVER convert Dreamcast images unless you know what you're doing - you may damage the image by messing up the ToC's. There is also a chance that your Dreamcast laser is dirty or requires calibrating if the unit was neglected for a long time or, the other way around, if it was grinded. The disc is badly burned, it's low quality or the image is damaged. Your Dreamcast does not detect the second ToC and thinks that you placed a single-ToC CD-ROM into the drive.
#UTOPIA DISC DREAMCAST PC#
Unlike a CD, they have two Tables of Contents - one with Audio/Data (standard Audio and, for example PC wallpapers like in the case of Sonic Adventure) and one with the game itself. Good luck. The Dreamcast is not reading the the ToC's or is reading them incorrectly.Ī standard CD contains one Table of Contents with one or two sessions - one for Audio and one for Data, Dreamcast discs (GD-ROM's) are very specific and different than standard discs. That new image works with Deamon Tools and Alcohol 120%. Since they do not work with alcohol 120% I still advise to copy the image with your burning program to create a fresh image. This seems to only count for users not using Deamon Tools 2.29 as there virtual drive software.Ĭorrection: If the image is created directly and opened with Deamon Tools 2.29 they will work. It still boots as audio and gives a corrupted unreadable DATA track. Important: Any direct image I made to Hard Drive with FASTBOOT, EXOBOOT, SELFBOOT, DREAMBOOT and what not else 'DID NOT' work with me. Use Nero Burning Rom, CD Discjuggler or any other burning program to make an image from the cd-rom. Let it finish untill the cd is ejected from the drive. (Maybe possible you need a restart before ASPI works but I do not think so.) Use the 'burn selfbootable game in a CD-rom' or it will not work.
#UTOPIA DISC DREAMCAST WINDOWS#
If you are using Windows 2k/XP it could be possible to copy the wnaspi32.dll from the exoboot folder and in your '\\Windows\system32\' folder. You will get an error message but it will not work without. Important: Do not forget 'Writer Bus ID' and 'Game Name'. In exoboot choose 'Data to CD or Image' -> Follow the steps. Copy the contents with or without any dummy.dat file to your hard drive. Mount the game image in virtual drive software. The following steps are neccesary with the latest 1.25 version: You can find downloads in the 'GUI for selfboot' topic.

If the game is 'COMPATABLE' with Chankast the only thing you need is make it bootable. If a game really doesn't want to boot with the Utopia method. I can only say that all the Utopia boot disks I have work in VGA mode and in NTSC mode.
